Swimming Fingers

A little update:

This morning I was talking with a friend of mine who is a dula and we were discussing the status of little Xochi. She recommended a couple of things to help get Amanda's labor started and also told me a funny story about laboring with her 6th? 5th? pretty sure 6th child. She said she had tried some things to get labor going and mentioned to her midwife that it really, oddly enough, felt like she could feel little fingers in her um... you know... hoo ha. Well, wouldn't you know - when baby Katherine was born she was born with her hand up by her cheek. She musta been tickling her mama all along.

So I was talking with Amanda this afternoon. She went swimming with her family today and really started to feel some strong contractions. Changing from braxton hicks in the front to stronger, more painful ones lower down and in her back. Then - you won't believe this - she said that she told her mom that it totally feels like she can feel little fingers in her um... you know... hoo ha!!! GET OUT!! I couldn't believe it and told her the story of my friend this morning. It was hilarious!

Justin is off unti Wednesday so NOW would be perfect timing. But you know how babies are with their perfect timing.

Also, Jodi (and I think someone else) had asked about induction on the 28th. Amanda said she talked with her doctor again last week and this time the doctor told her that it is their policy to not induce until 41 weeks. Sooooo.... with that little policy in place we could be lookin' at June 8th.

I imagine some of you are probably a mite confused about the whole due date thing and why in the world I thought Xochi would arrive earlier. Amanda's due dates have been jumbled from the start. She was not sure when she got pregnant and there were some other factors that could have made it more difficult to determine an accurate due date at the beginning. Her first due date was May 8. Then June 2. Then "probably more like" May 20. She's also moved and had 3 different doctors during this pregnancy. It's all confusing and there are so many variables. BUT, one thing for sure - she has to come sometime!

I informed Justin today that I'm going to give him my password and show him how to post things so that he can update you all while I'm in California. So be sure and give him a hard time. ;-)

How funny! Well I'm glad Xochi's making her way closer down the old canal. :)

I guess I'll have to erase Xochi's name off the 28th on my calendar. I hope it's still this week though!

I am happy to hear about the contractions. Every contraction is one step closer to your girl! I can't wait to meet her!

I carry my babies so low I always have that feeling although it does not always feel like tickling! Sometimes I swear the baby has a knife in there! Other times I swear if we all looked we could see the hand waving from the outside! Lovely.

But all this for Amanda is more confirmation that the baby has dropped. What day is her appointment this week?

I just noticed your running log. I dream of running around lake padden again once I am un-pregnant. Maybe we can push our babies in jogger strollers around together! That would be fun.

Wow! I laughed out loud at your splendid use of "hoo ha" and then again when I read Amy's response. That sounds a little intense. I look forward to laps around Lake Padden in the future with all of these new babies, too!

Ah, Lake Padden... Can any of you girls make room for a family of almost 7 up there?

I, too, have felt the um fingers...Not quite yet during this pregnancy but it won't be long. And my experiences have been more "knife-like", too. Ouch!

I'm continuing to pray for Amanda and for Xochi's arrival!!

I keep hoping every time I open your blog it will say something along the lines of you jet setting off to California to get the little one! So anxious for you!

Fingers sound so tickly...

I, unfortunately, felt feet. Stomping, impatient, "get-me-out-of-here", boy feet. Feet that should have been somewhere else.

All's well that ends well.

Anxiously waiting for news,

Julie

Great story! Obviously that's Xochi's way of saying "Hello, I'm ready to come out now."

thanks for checking in Cutzi. I am an avid follower of your blog and awaiting the arrival of your new one. I am so excited for you guys. I'm not too good at leaving comments because i usual check blogs when I'm either holding or feeding Ada- one hand typing takes sooo long- but I can't wait to get the "news" from you! Looking forward to hopefully hanging out in B'ham with all the troops!
