Sort of Like a M*th Lab

Welp, I decided to go ahead and try my hand at Stacy's homemade laundry soap tonight. Besides the fact that I wondered to myself if my kitchen was starting to seem sort of like a m*th lab (especially after I looked on the Borax box and read in big letters "DO NOT USE FOR DRUGS) - I'm kind of excited about it. (I surely don't need anyone googling that and coming up with my blog - no sirree!!)

It sounded kind of fun to me and I was also intrigued by the ingredients. I have been a Queen of Clean fan for years and 2 out of the 3 products I already had on my laundry shelf at her recommendation. Borax is the only thing I have found that can take the sweat smell out of the crotch of my workout pants (yes, I did just say/type that - I hope you're not shocked). Isn't that a terrible word? But it's accurate - that's right where the seamstress would measure from if she were going to hem your pants. Right where your mom would pull to see if the millionth pair of school jeans you tried on really fit. Right where your pants start to ride up a little bit after you buy the big box of toaster pastries from Costco (hey! at least they were organic.) Anyhow........

I decided to take a tip from Mrs. Meyers and added orange and lavender essential oil to it. Only 1/2 an oz. But note to self: lavender is very potent. Next time? Add less lavender, more orange.

So we'll see how it turns out.

And just for fun - here's who's been playing on my ipod most often lately. I'm loving them.

Wait. YOUR MOM DID THAT, TOO?!
Oh, the embarrassment. My mom was NOT discreet about it in the dressing rooms and my sister and I were mortified. EVERY time.

:)

Can't wait to see how you like the soap!

I'm a special kind of geek... I actually thought it was "Math Lab" in the title. I eventually caught on, though. :) Hope you like the soap - I love it!

Read the post after this and you'll know for sure that it isn't "math lab". But hey, I still count on my fingers. I just don't let my sixth grade math students see me while I'm doing it.

I'm totally inspired!!! I'm adding Borax and Fells Naptha to my shopping list.

I actually went soap crazy a few years back and started making soap. It's a pretty fun process. If you haven't done it previously, I bet you'd really enjoy it.

This has been on my short list of things to do about about 3 months. I finally got around to buying the washing soda the other night but I need to buy more soap.

Tonight I grated a knuckle or two and a nail. I'm tempted to use the food processor (that has never been used) if Lucas is awake.

Beware! The Fels Naptha is pretty strong. If you have an older pot it would probably be worth designating a "laundry soap" pot. It took me more than several good washings to get the smell out. It did eventually come out - so I don't want to disuade you - just forewarn you. ;-)
