Candy Cane, Gifts and a Sleep-Talkin' Husband

Before I get into the good stuff - I have to share with you what happened last night as I was crawling into bed.

I often stay up later than Justin. Especially when he has to work the next day because then he goes to bed around 9 or 9:30. So I stay up.... knitting, surfing, facebooking, crafting..... When I go to bed he's often been asleep for an hour or two (or more) and he's in that weird part of sleep. You know - the part where if someone tries to wake you up it's almost impossible? So last night - I start climbing into bed and Justin shouts:

YA-YA-YA-YA-YA-YA-YA!! (as in Karate chop "Hi-ya" or "Ya-Ya Sisterhood")

So I say:

Fightin' bad guys?

And he says:

Yah, well .... they're easy to fight when they're the cheap teams.

Then I bust up laughing hysterically, at which point he wakes up all the way and says to me:

Hush up. And creeps his way down the hall to the bathroom.

When he gets back I relay to him, still laughing maniacally, all that transpired and he rolls over and goes back to sleep.

I'm still laughing about it this morning...

Moving on..

I've been in such a Christmas-y mood lately. I've realized it's my blatant attempt to stretch this merry season out for as long as possible.

Yesterday I went to Fred Meyer. I cleverly disguised it as a trip to look for a couple things to finish up my sister Abbey's birthday present. But, in all honesty, I was on a mission for one thing:

Peppermint. Or more specifically, Candy Cane.

I love candy cane scent. I've acquired more of an appreciation for it over the last couple of years. I think it all started with this:
It must not be confused with peppermint tea. Peppermint tea is different. I'm not sure why - it just is.

So yesterday I set out on a mission and I came home with this:

Ack! That photo is blurry. Sorry. I need to work on my photog skillz.

I am certain that Mrs. Meyer really intended to call this fragrance "Candy Cane" rather than "Peppermint." I'm sure it was just a temporary lapse in product naming judgement. I also picked up that little candle. It's called "Wish" and is peppermint and vanilla scented. I got one last year at Haggen and looked them up on-line this year to see where to find them. I specifically wanted the little tin. They're made by Aroma Naturals and smell so good.

*snicker snicker* I'm totally laughing at the beer bottle I purposely left for that photo. We've moved on from Pumpkin beer in this household, folks. It's on to Brrrrr Beer. Whatever that is.

I've also been beginning work on Christmas gifts. I've knit a couple hats - one of which includes this "Sherlock Holmes Hat" that I am very pleased with. I made it for my nephew Jordy for Christmas. Remember Mad Model? She's back.

I know the color in this is terrible - it was just too priceless not to post.

I love the point where I'm at in motherhood where I can laugh about this.
Ahhh sinfulness. Happens to the best of us.
(I should also mention that this little girl is just about potty trained. Wahoo!)

Here's a cute picture of her - just so that awful Get Out of My Face image isn't stuck in your minds

I decided I definitely need to make a hat for Adia out of this pattern too. And probably Steele and any other little babies I can find that will wear them.

I also whipped this little notebook and pencil holder up for my sister Abbey's birthday yesterday. She turned 11 and I thought this would be the perfect gift when I saw it here. Abbey loved it. She especially loved the little white rabbit fabric that I chose in honor of her white rabbit, Marshmallow. Mine didn't turn out quite as cute since, as usual, I tried to fit in more than would fit (12 pencils instead of 10) but I still liked it.

I know I haven't been around much. I've been sick, busy. And then a little sick and a little busy.

I know a little girl who needs a Sherlock Holms hat! She outgrew her pumpkin hat and now she needs a new one (hint hint). Love it!

And you did great on Abby's gift too. Great job.

And I am very tempted by the myers stuff. And the candle? Do I get it at Freds too?

I saw the Mrs. Meyer's peppermint pack at Whole Foods today, and I was thisclose to getting it. I was in a hurry and didn't see the price, but I was regretting not getting it all the way home. I get a little too into things like that, too. When I saw the Candy Cane Joe-Joe's at Trader Joe's for the first time a few weeks ago, I nearly hyperventilated.

So did I read that you have a soon to be Little Miss Potty Trained at your house? Oh my, do we need to follow her example and get on with it at our house! Maybe if she had a hat like that...

I love your crafty stuff, Cutzi!

And your story about your sleep talkin' husband. I know a certain husband of mine who talks in his sleep on the occasion... but more often he wakes up, takes a shower and starts to get dressed for the day. He then realizes that it is 2am, not 5:40am like he though it was. This makes him angry. It makes me giggle.

FABULOUS HAT, Cutzi! Will I see you tonight at the knitting guild meeting at the Ferndale Library, 6 pm? It really is neat to see everything that people create...

Abbey LOVES her notebook thing. I told her she should make one for her teacher for Christmas and she said, "I wouldn't want to steal Cutzi's ideas." If she only knew!
What's up with my mad grand-daughter these days? She was really grumpy about dinner last night. It was pretty darn amazing when she decided to climb up on the kitchen stool to retrieve her uneaten meal so that she could get in on the birthday cake along with the rest of us! "I get my dinner, Grammy!" Then she ate it all up, and had a full helping of cake and ice cream too! What a smart little cookie!
