In case you didn't notice:
Lovely, I know. I'm trying not to be too bothered about it considering, like Martha said yesterday, that there are people in the world who don't even have a house to live in.
But nonetheless, it has got me dreaming of sofas. Justin's mom's cousin (or something like that) has a business selling leather restoration kits. I wrote her to see what it would cost to restore ours and she said that what we'd have to do is remove the cushion that is ripped, have them put on a whole new cushion and then restore the rest of the leather to match the new cushion. We'd also eventually have to have several of the other cushions on the couch and love seat replaced since they are so worn and will probably rip soon as well. Bummer.
I've always loved our couch and love seat. We got them for a super good deal at one of those stores that sells Costco returns and overstocks. Sometimes I feel like they're a little dark and heavy looking but for the most part I really like them. Not to mention that the leather has made cleaning spit-up, puke, poo, pee, you-name-it when you have small children - a breeze. I highly recommend leather. But now, now that we have beautiful Bedford Gray walls and a whole new living room arrangement (pictures to come soon) I am dreaming of couches like these: (I've only listed the affordable ones here.... a $3000 couch is not in my future anytime soon. I'm not sure I would want it to ever be in my future, actually)

Carmen Sofa - Pier 1
Morgan Sofa - Cost Plus World MarketLenny Sofa in Granite - Macy's
Martha Stewart Tufted Sofa -Macy's
Of course, my favorite one is the Martha Stewart one. But it is about 4 times the price of what it what it would cost to replace the cushion rather than twice the price. What do you think?
I should also note here that Justin and I have not agreed to either a) buy a new sofa or b) even think about paying to repair the old one. What we have discussed is taking some gorilla glue and putting a big old patch over the hole in the current one. But like I said.... dreaming....

If you convince Justin to replace the sofa, it might be worth checking out Couch in Seattle. You tell them exactly what you want, and they custom-make it in California out of eco-friendly materials. Their prices and quality are supposed to be excellent.

How about creating your own slip covers for the cushions. I see that on sofas sometimes, where the cushions are a differnt fabric and cover than the main part of the sofa. Could be cute...if you found the right fabric. Like adding an accent until you are ready for the big purchase of a new one. Just a thought to throw out there.
Kind of like this concept...

Hmmm..... both great considerations. Thanks girls!
Um... I can't tell from the photo if the cushion is actually attached to the couch. I guess it must be, or you would've already just flipped it over ;D
If you do shop for a new one, don't forget Pace's.
That's funny...the leather on our recliner ripped a couple months ago. I told Jason our options were either duct tape or a new recliner. We both agreed on a new recliner. Costco had just what I wanted and the price was fairly reasonable, so we got it.
Spending money on furniture is a tough one for me. It's so expensive and it seems so frivolous. And yet I want it so bad. I still sort of regret how much we spent on our dining set, because every time one of the kids makes a new dent in it, the first thing I think of is how much it cost. But I did spend two years saving for it, and there is a lot of life that happens around that thing. And it will keep happening for the rest of my life because I don't think Jason will ever let me buy another one. ;)
I like the World Market couch. They're all nice though. Can't wait for living room pictures!
haha. Your comment about the heart clips totally made me laugh. I'm glad we're out in the open.....I'm not sending love notes to your husband :).
And I'm glad you enjoy the clips!
Thanks for stopping by MADE!

Ha ha... "in case you didn't notice".. with a close-up of the rip (lol). Cute. And gorilla glue? Gotta get me some of that...
Hi there mis Cutzi - I have a great idea. You cut a piece of leather- maybe a little darker or even black an d cut it in the shape of a paw print and gorilla glue that hummer on!!!!! Ha! Hey - it could work for awhile. lv jane
Oh, MAN. That is a HUGE bummer.
I gotta tell ya, I spent a lot on our sofa (Not $3000, of course)...and the fabric on it lasted 5 years. Such a disappointment. But I've gotta tell you: I heart my slipcover. HEART. IT.
You've got some SKILLZ, so I'll bet you could sew yourself one. It's so great to just toss them in the wash machine. I've decided I need to learn to sew (and learn to LIKE sewing) so I can make more slipcover.
I'm thinking about slipcovering Zuddy and the Noodle. They're such dirty birdies.
xoxox,

That is so funny Cutzi. I am surfing craigslist for leather couches. Have to be brown. I would like the big brad-like things on them. I cannot fathom spending the money on a new set. I just did taxes and haven't had new couches in about 6 babies, if you know what I mean...
