Wiped Out

It's 8:30. My children are in their beds. Asleep. Both of them....for at least half an hour. Amazing.

Our little Adia is a total night owl. While we put her to bed at the same time every night - around 7:30 or so - she often lays in her bed singing and talking until sometimes as late as 10 o'clock... while her big brother snoozes soundly beside her. But not tonight. They're both totally pooped out from a day on the hill.

It was Adia's first day so I wanted to be sure and get plenty of pics and video of her. I'm officially the "Lodge Mom." I sit in the lodge, I get kids dressed, I knit, I eat, I look cute, I take pictures, I shop, I smile at all the people commenting on how cute our kids are, I eat some more, knit some more. I forgot my book today otherwise I might have done that. I don't ski. Maybe some day - when our children are a little more independent. But for now I take my job very seriously - especially the looking cute and eating part of it.

A funny little story from today - I tend to get pretty bad motion sickness on the way up the mountain. We take Justin's Volvo which makes it worse. Today was no exception. While we were stopped at a rest area (I get motion sickness, Justin has to go to the bathroom a bazillion times..)

I was feeling pretty nauseous and pretty hungry. I thought I might feel better if I ate something but nothing much sounded good - I was nauseous after all. The only thing that sounded even slightly appealing to me were salt and vinegar potato chips. Now - I have to say - we don't keep chips in our house. We occasionally have tortilla chips and will buy potato chips maybe once a year for a special bbq or something. Here's why: Per my request, Justin bought me a little bag of those salt and vinegar potato chips today... and I ate the WHOLE BAG! And I felt better after that. So that's my new nausea remedy. You'd think I was pregnant or something. But I'm not. Not really.

Anyway, onto the fun stuff. Get ready to smile.

Per Michelle's wise council - I am now placing all picture captions above their respective pictures

Gettin' Ready
Adia's totally tough - I'm sure all the gear isn't the most comfortable thing in the world.
She didn't whine one bit.

First Run

Mama and Steele chillin' in the lodge
(Speaking of Steele, I hope I didn't freak any of you out with the sawing post - I am certain it was intended to be a simple surgical procedure to help me feel better. Certain of it.)

Some cute video - please excuse my blatant and excessive excitement and woo hooing.
I get that way sometimes.

Anybody know how I can host these videos outside of blogger?
I'd really like it if you could see them in a little bigger format.

It really does sound like you are pregnant...good audience anticipation there ...I could have bought stock in salt and vinegar chips when I was pregnant. I think they naturally aleviate the nausea though, or at least I'm going with that to make myself feel better :)

Cutzi, I host my videos on youtube - they seem to look a bit bigger than blogger. To post them on blogger I just copy/paste the HTML code from youtube into blogger.

Too cute! I love Adia in the goggles! It kind of makes me sad that we don't have any mountains around here. We have plenty of snow, though!

I get motion sickness, and I find that salt helps me, too. Old Dutch dill pickle chips were always my go-to remedy, but I don't think you can get those out here. I also like the Trader Joe's oyster crackers; they've seen me through a few road trips.

Steele and Adia are so lucky to have a dad who brings them skiing! I would love to get into skiing, but I got butterflies in my stomach just watching the footage of them getting on the ski lift--it's just so fast and unforgiving. (On my 6th grade ski trip the lift revealed itself to me as my nemesis. Maybe I could spend a few years on the bunny hills and work my way up.) Does Justin strap a second pair of bindings to his skis? Is that a special harness? The whole thing is quite fascinating.

Remember when I said that you are me 15 yrs ago? I have videos of my kids that look just like this, only they are skiing between their daddy's knees. He got a real workout that way. I made all the same noises and encouragements you make. When they start by skiing by themselves we will all have to turn down the volume I am sure...Looks like a great time.

I'm so impressed with your ski adventures- Particularly by your kids' willingness to wear the gear required. I guess when I think about it, my kids would wear the gear too. They love gear. But I sure didn't enjoy that aspect of learning to ski. But I was sooo much older when I learned. I was 5.

Not really pregnant, huh?

Oh CUTZ!!!

I just LOVE those videos! You and Justin are creating the best memories for your family!

I wish I knew how to ski, but like Michelle, I had a bad experience as a child and haven't been again. You're inspiring me, though! Little Adia looks so precious! Did she love it?
